DCWV Vase

Hello, DCWV friends! It's Jessi from the Social Media Design Team. Can you believe that May is next week? EEKK...where did April go?!? They always say May brings flowers. With Mother's Day just a few short weeks away, I thought it would be fun to incorporate the two together.

A few weeks ago, I found a cute unfinished wooden vase at my local Michaels store. My first thought was to cover it with some pretty paper! So I decided to pair the vase up with prints from the DCWV Seaside Yacht Stack.

This is a very simple project to complete. Trace the vase on the back side of the paper and cut out. The paper is attached to the vase with Mod Podge. Once the vase was finished, I thought it looked a little plain, so I decided to add a tag.

The tag was included in the Seaside Yacht Stack. I added a simple stamp and a few rhinestones to the tag. The tag is attached to the vase using a string of navy twine.

For this picture, I used a fake flower. However, I think it would be wonderful to use it with fresh flowers. All you need is a thin cylinder vase and stick it inside the wooden vase. Add some water and a few fresh stem flowers.

Throughout this week's blog posts, the design team members will be sharing a few of their own stories and their mothers (or special women) in their lives.

I have some very creative women in my family. I truly believe that I have been blessed with their creative genes. My mother loves to make quilts, knits, and sews. I have tried to use a sewing machine for different purposes, but am lacking those skills. My paternal grandmother is a artist. She has completed some amazing paintings and has created a whole line of wooden Santas. My maternal grandmother is a quilter and a cardmaker. She has been creating handmade cards for several years and that is where my love for papercrafts started! I hope that I continue to pass the creativity genes on to my daughter. She is 6 and loves to make cards along side of me. She even has her own desk setup next to mine.

Happy Day Phone Case

Happy New Year's Eve, DCWV friends! Boy, 2015 went by fast!

A few weeks ago, I bought a new cover for my phone. I bought one with a clear backing with plans of doing something creative with it!

I love the colors in the Happy Day stack. They go perfect with the gold frame of the case.

I picked a pretty foil polka dot print to be the background of the phone. I used a printed saying that is part of the stack and cut it down to size to fit the case. I pieced the two papers together and placed inside the case.

Once the paper is in the case, I used a pencil to trace around the camera hole. Using an exacto knife, I cut the camera hole out.

I am excited about how this turned out. No more boring phone case!

Thank you for stopping by! Happy New Year!

DCWV Oversized Wooden Pencil

Hello, DCWV friends! Today, I am sharing a project made using one of the new oversized DCWV 11x17 stacks. If you have not heard, DCWV release a ton of new products at JoAnn stores, including a number of oversized paper stacks!

I wanted to create a project to celebrate Back-to-School! So I went to search Pinterest for some ideas. I searched "teachers gifts" and as I was scrolling down, I saw an oversized wooden pencil. It looked so cool, I had to give it a try. The only difference, instead of painting the wood yellow, I decided to use some patterned paper.

It is hard to tell the size in the picture above, I am took a picture of the picture on the oversized 11x17 Double-sided Brights stack.

This project was super simple to create. I grabbed a scrap piece of a 2x4 sitting in the garage and cut one end to a point like a pencil.  Once the wood was sanded smoothly, it was time to tape of the parts that were going to be painted (point and eraser). After the paint dried, I added a strip of DCWV Dark Grey Metallic cardstock near the eraser using double-sided tape. Next, add the piece of yellow paper and wrap around the wood with tape. Using black letter stickers, I labeled the pencil. To finish of the pencil, I added a twine bow near the eraser. A perfect gift for teachers!

DCWV Project Paper Rolls - Vintage Roses

Hello, DCWV friends! Have you seen all the new products available at JoAnn Fabric Stores? If not, you should stop by your local JoAnn's or check out their website. In the new release, there are quite a few oversized paper options, including several designs of DCWV Project Paper Rolls. Today, I will be sprucing up a boring serving tray with a fun, beautiful floral print (Vintage Roses)

This project was so easy to complete. Cut a piece of paper slightly larger than the size of the tray. Using an adhesive, I used Mod Podge, cover the bottom of the tray with a thin layer. Place paper onto and smooth out all air bubbles. Trim off excess paper, using a sharp blade. Use the tray to transfer dry items. If you wish to be able to carry drinks, add a piece of glass or plexi-glass to the tray.

Operation Organizing Craft Room Pt. 2

I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel! It has been a project, but I am loving the end result! Along with organizing all my craft supplies, I need to also find a way to organize my list of future projects and deadlines. I have bought a few planners and notebooks which I hope will do the trick!

I bought a simple composition notebook and wanted to dress it up a bit! So I brought out one of the DCWV Premium 5 Piece Paper Collection available at Joann Fabrics. And let the creativity begin!

The first step is to create the bind of the notebook. I measured the width I was looking for. First you attach the paper to the front of the cover  and wrap around to the back side.

Next it is time to create the rest of the cover. I measured and cut 2 equal size papers to cover the front and the back. Once the paper is attached, trim off the excess around the rounded corners.

I believe that this cover is beautiful, but needs a little more detail! I attached ribbon where the two papers attach, in hope to hide the paper seam. (As you can see in the picture below, the front of the May Arts ribbon is a satin teal color. However, the back side is a kraft, papery feel. I chose to use the kraft side).

The cover still needed something, so I added a cute metal embellishment to the corner. The embellishment is attached to a piece of dark brown burlap paper that is include in the DCWV Premium Paper Collection.

Once I added a stamped title to the embellishment, the notebook was finished! I am in love with the outcome and look forward to creating more! They would make cute teacher gifts! Is it too soon to think about Teacher Appreciation Week??

DCWV Memory Tray

Happy Hump Day everyone!!!!

I bought this memory tray frame a few months and finally got around to using it!  I loved the colors in the DCWV's Honey Chic Stack paper pad and knew right away what picture I wanted to use! Earlier this year my husband and I celebrated our 10 year anniversary. To make the day more special, we decided to renew our wedding vows with our kids in attendance. It was truly a wonderful day and deserved a wonderful crafting project!

I love how simple this frames can be to complete! Having a paper pad makes it so easy to pair up prints and patterns!  The photo layout is create with two prints/patterns under the photo. Then I fussy-cut the floral design from another print in the same paper pad. The floral cutout is placed over the corner of the photo. The reminder parts of the frame are just as easy! The paper flowers are created using a circle punch. Foam letter stickers make an easy title/sentiment of the layout.

Thank you for stopping by! Hope to see you back again!
